THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE was the birthplace of the underground brotherhood known as Theta Delta Beta. It was founded in May 1990 by 17 Pilipino founding fathers who were known for partying and being feared on the basketball court. People called these fellows "the Dark Boys" since they were mostly dark skinned and Ilocano (people living on the Northern part of the island of Luzon in the Philippines). Jokingly, the TDB acronym of the title "The Dark Boys" was converted into the greek letters Theta, Delta, and Beta. What started off as a joke for this close knit group of friends would later on become an organization spanning three chapters, UCI, Cal State Fullerton, and UCLA. Respectively named Alpha, Beta, and Gamma chapters, Theta has remained with only three chapters since 1994.

From its humble beginnings as an inside joke amongst a group of friends, Theta has evolved into an organization of the heart. The foundation of what our actives thrive upon is the same friendship that drove those 17 founding fathers to start the brotherhood.

Theta has grown to over a hundred strong and we will continue to grow and develop as we reach the next century. But certain things will not change, we will continue to do services to our community not because we are forced to do it, but because we want to do it. Ask an active how he feels after doing service and he will probably say that it felt good helping out those in need. Also, the friendships made will continue past our college years.

"THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE STRONG...
OF TDB"

"...once you start a movement, the momentum, the inertia is always operating
and it's pretty hard to stop it. You cannot even stop it.
One individual cannot stop it.
You stop now, and somebody picks it up, and it keeps going."
-Philip Vera Cruz
